Classroom Training

Our Facilitator will work with you to pass on the knowledge and skills required for this unit. A Learner Guide, Practical Activities that closely simulate a worksite and Class Discussions; will assist and support you. Knowledge and Practical Assessments are then completed.

Note: Asbestos training services are delivered by Training Momentum Pty Ltd trading as Scorpion Learning Centre, under a Third-Party Agreement with with Alert Force RTO 91826. Certificates are issued by Alert Force after all documentation has been submitted and course fees paid.

Nationally Recognised Training

Course Overview 

Asbestos removal training is required for the safe removal of asbestos and asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). If your job duties involve exposure to asbestos or the need to remove it, you may need to complete a nationally recognised training course.

This course will train you to safely plan and undertake the removal of non-friable asbestos, in all states of Australia. (Non-friable asbestos is also referred to as Bonded or Class B)

This course is a Legislated minimum requirement for all asbestos removal workers and may also apply, if you are working:

  • in demolition and deconstruction
  • renovation works
  • fencing and/or roofing sheet removals
  • ALL asbestos removal work under a B Class Asbestos Licence
  • in the Telecommunications Industry i.e. Telstra and NBN related work
  • Trades persons carrying out repairs or renovations

The Construction Industry Training Fund CTIF  has subsidies of up to 80% for eligible construction industry businesses and employees. Contact them on 9244 0100.

Course Structure

This Course includes training and information on:

  • WHS Legislative requirements and compliance
  • What is asbestos material
  • Identifying asbestos containing materials
  • Health issues relating to asbestos exposure
  • Asbestos removal related risk assessments
  • Identifying hazards, applying controls and ensuring safe asbestos removal work methods
  • Planning and preparing for asbestos removal
  • Methods for safe and compliant removal of asbestos materials
  • Waste disposal methods
  • Processes for decontamination and site clean ups

Site location for work may be either domestic or commercial, and may be a demolition site, a new work site or an existing structure being renovated, extended, restored or maintained. Project sites may be construction sites and may also include ships, soils and fences.

Regulatory Information

Asbestos removal licenses are required prior to commencing asbestos works.

Work must be completed according to relevant legislation, the Code of Practice for the Safe Removal of Asbestos, industry guidelines, customer and organisational requirements, including work health and safety (WHS) policies and procedures.

Asbestos Licence - Class B (Non-friable asbestos removal only)

WorkSafe WA administer and issue a range of Class B Asbestos Removal Licences. This is required for the removal of bonded non-friable asbestos material and depending on your business requirements a specific licence may apply to you.

When applying for a Class B Asbestos Removal Licence, you must hold  the unit CPCCDE4008 Supervise Asbestos Removal (including the pre-requisite training units) AND demonstrate you have prior experience in removing asbestos.

Note: A Class A Licence is required for removal of friable asbestos - please contact WorkSafe WA for information on Asbestos licence applications .

Pre-Requisite

You must provide specific evidence that you hold the national unit CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry or an equivalent version CPCCOHS1001A or CPCWHS1001. (This Unit is also required to apply for for a WorkSafe Construction White Card)

If you do not have this unit or you hold an older version issued before 11 May 2009; contact us immediately and we will arrange for you to attain this unit as an addition to your asbestos course.
